So, we’re starting something new. In addition to our immersive business programs, Koru now offers a free job finder for college students and recent grads, designed to help you find jobs that are a great fit, build strong applications, and get feedback from coaches.
It’s unchartered territory for us. We’re excited.
And of course, we’re here to answer any questions you have.
Is this like the Koru program … but online?
Nope. The Koru program remains a separate and awesome way we help college students and recent grads launch their careers.
Our job finder is a tool that helps you find and apply to great jobs. You can sign up anytime, use it anytime, and it’s completely free. While it’s very different from our programs, we included elements of program in the design of job finder. For example, every time you apply to a job, you’ll get feedback from a real coach.
Can I do the program AND use the job finder?
Of course! Program + Job Finder = Dream Team.
How does the job finder work?
It’s easiest to break down into steps.
1. Find jobs that you’re interested in (you can fill out some simple preferences to help us get a sense of what you’re looking for).
2. Answer a few questions to check if the role is a good fit for your strengths.
3. Upload your resume (we couldn’t avoid it).
4. Answer some questions about how you like to work. You only have to do this section once, and then we’ll save it for any future applications!
5. Write a short essay and record a 60-second video.
6. BOOM. HIT SUBMIT.
Why are you making me record a video? AHHHHH?!
When we started brainstorming ways we could improve the standard entry-level job application (resume + cover letter), we unanimously wanted a way for candidates to introduce themselves in a very personal way.
Throughout our pilot, we heard from employers using the job finder to hire for roles that a short video was the “maker” for a lot of candidates they would have otherwise passed over. Seeing someone, hearing their stories, and making that brief personal connection was huge, especially for candidates whose resumes didn’t quite match up perfectly with the job at hand.
So don’t get scared. Go for it.
What happens after I submit my application?
Submitting a job application often feels anti-climactic. Probably because most employers never get back to you or even let you know that your application went through.
That’s not how we’re doing things.
Once you submit, our team of coaches will personally review each application and send feedback on your fit, short answers, and video. All of our feedback will include actionable advice on how you can improve. We’ll then send your application directly to the employer. We have real relationships with the companies on our job finder and will make sure your application gets into the right hands. Once they review, we’ll get you answers. One of our goals for Koru is that you’ll always hear back. No more black hole.
Where are the jobs located?
For now, the job finder is being used to hire for jobs in Seattle, San Francisco, and Boston — though some of our employers are hiring for roles around the country. In the coming months, we’ll be expanding to more cities.
If there’s a city you’d like to see more jobs in, let us know! Feedback is a gift.
How many jobs can I apply for?
The sky’s the limit, friend.
